As we report this, The Classic Crime is already fully funded for a new project that they just launched a Kickstarter campaign for earlier today. The band had turned to crowd-funding for their 2012 album, Phoenix, and now they're raising money for an album to commemorate 10 years of music-making in 2014. Titled What Was Done: Volume One, the project will "celebrate & acoustically re-imagine 10 different TCC songs from the last decade."
About the project, the band writes:
Hello friends and potential backers,What Was Done: Volume One is about celebrating The Classic Crime's ten year anniversary through revisiting and re-imagining songs we've released over the past decade.
We want to select ten songs; some singles, some fan favorites & some deep cuts we like, and re-arrange them using only acoustic instruments. This means acoustic guitar, piano, violin, and all sorts of auxiliary percussion (ie, stuff we can hit to make rhythmic noise) will all be featured on WWD:V1.
On top of the 10 songs, we also want to record & release another two brand new bonus acoustic tracks that have never before been heard, just to make sure we're always bringing something completely new to your ears.
The reason we are using the subtitle "Volume One" is because if the project is successful we want to leave the door open for more chapters to be added in the future.
We were absolutely blown away by the support of our last Kickstarter Project for "PHOENIX," where our backers pledged 287% of what we needed. It was a production that became epic in scope and we were so happy for the extra cash pledged because of how it funded the mixing and mastering of the album (a result we are very proud of).
This is a simpler project and requires less funds, so we've trimmed the rewards down to the few that were very popular last time... plus some fun ones we couldn't resist.
After successfully completing the fulfillment process for "PHOENIX," we are much more aware of the costs involved in completing a successful Kickstarter campaign.
